Broadway at The Commons is for artists ages 12-19 who are interested in pursuing performing arts education. For three weeks students will collaborate on all aspects of mounting a musical theater production. Daily instruction will include character development, vocalization, choreography, set and prop construction, and costume design. Students will develop characters with a focus on building an ensemble attitude. At the end of the camp they will perform a musical for a live audience! This program is taught by professional teaching artists with experience in musical theater and arts education. Final Performances, July 24 and 25 at 7:30 PM

Rising Stars is for young artists ages 6-12. This two-week camp focuses on character creation and development and includes daily instruction on vocalization and choreography. They will perform a musical for a live audience on Saturday, August 15 at 7:00 PM! This program is taught by Mary Kate O’Connell and assisted by professional teaching artists with experience in musical theater and arts education, along with interns who complete the Broadway at The Commons program.

Audition Like A Pro: High School Edition

This three-week mini course covers everything you need to know to audition like a professional, including: drafting your theater resume, a practice series of mock auditions with live feedback, dance calls, and building a repertoire of material that best suits your unique abilities. Whether you are actively auditioning or plan to in the future, this course is a fun way to be prepared anytime an opportunity arises!

Acting Out Loud!

This weekly performing arts series held on Monday afternoon is designed for seniors. It is based in an imaginative and non-threatening environment that will inspire and develop their creative passions. This program engages mature adults in a unique program where they can spend time with peers while exploring new adventures in acting, improvisation, movement, voice and stagecraft. A special performance by our participants and post show reception, on Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at 1:00 PM

Theatre Without A Script

Each week students will learn fun, skill-building techniques on the process of scene creation, delivery, and improvisation. By the end of the course, students will have created unique theatrical moments, which will be performed as individual world premiere scenes. This course is six (6) consecutive weeks with a class performance on the last Saturday, May 23, 2020.

Entrances + Exits: How to Craft a Compelling Character

April 18 – May 23 | 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
What happens to a character between entrances and exits? Students will work through a variety of scenes and exercises to foster a deeper understanding of our common humanity, to help dissect that character’s motivation, and translate it for the audience in a way that is compelling and entertaining. This six-week course is appropriate for Beginning- to advanced-level students.
