O’Connell & Company – “The Home of Great Theatre” – is pleased to announce our exciting 2016-2017 Season of Shows – something for everyone – as we begin our fourth season in residence at The Park School of Buffalo.


GENTLEMEN PREFER DIVAS:  September 16, 17 & 18, 2016.   Originally conceived by Mary Kate O’Connell.   Three special performances for Curtain Up! weekend at Shea’s Smith Theatre, 660 Main St., Buffalo, NY.  DIVA by DIVA meets GENTLEMEN’S GENTLEMEN in this all-star cabaret celebration!

BREAST IN SHOW:  September 28 – October 30, 2016   By Lisa Hayes, Music & Lyrics by Joan Cushing. The WNY Premier of a new musical that gives voice to someone you know!  The show explores the lives of five very dissimilar characters, in different stages of their lives, who have just been diagnosed with breast cancer.  Watch close connections develop as the characters meet in the “Chemo Café” and how each of them adapt to their diagnosis.  “Poignant, sophisticated, elevated, witty … it will move you and amuse you all at once.” — DE Metro Theater Arts.

THE BETSY CARMICHAEL CHRISTMAS SPECIAL:  November 17 – December 18, 2016   Originally conceived by Joey Bucheker.   It’s Christmas at the BINGO Palace, and Betsy is back in full Holiday form – Merry, Bright & Fabulous!  BINGO games, surprises and lots of laughs.  Enthusiastic, energetic and totally camp … an entertaining evening which audiences are sure to enjoy!

IT SHOULDA BEEN YOU:  January 26 – February 26, 2017  Book & Lyrics by Brian Hargrove, Music by Barbara Anselmi.    WNY Premier of the Broadway Musical Hit.  A wild musical farce with blushing brides, nervous grooms, overbearing moms, unexpected guests and plenty of crazy twists and turns!  Hilarious … The perfect wedding starts to unravel faster than you can whistle “Here Comes the Bride”!  The show opened on Broadway in April 2015, directed by David Hyde Pierce and starred Tyne Daly, Lisa Howard and Harriet Harris.  “…the main reason to admire ‘Shoulda’ is the frequency, quirkiness and heartiness of the laughs.” – Chicago Tribune     “…this Broadway season’s freshest and funniest to date defies skepticism, both in its wacky humor and its big, buoyant heart.” – USA Today

CEMETERY CLUB:  April 20 – May 21, 2017  Book by Ivan Menchell.    A romantic comedy involving three Jewish widows who meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husband’s graves.  When Sam the butcher arrives on the scene, the dynamic of these three women changes.  There is guilt and the possibility of broken hearts.   “Funny, sweet tempered, moving.” – The Boston Globe   “Very touching and humorous.  An evening of pure pleasure that will make you glad you went to the theatre.” – Washington Journal Newspapers

DIVA by DIVA: A Celebration of Women!: Wednesdays @ 7:30 pm, beginning October 12    O’Connell & Company’s signature show returns to the stage and begins its 17th year…or is it the 18th? (DIVAS never reveal their age!)   This fast-paced cabaret style show is filled with songs, readings, humor and quotes by, for and about women. It may be gender specific, but it is not gender exclusive — men like it, too!
